How to Import Sony A5100 videos to FCP/iMovie/FCE

Sony A5100 is a newly released mirror less camera which offers the same 24.3-megapixel, APS-C sized CMOS image sensor as in the extremely popular A6000. The most important feature of this camera is that users have a choice to set variety of resolution / frame rate options for AVCHD and MPEG-4 capture. For most users, they want to edit Sony A5100 footage on Mac NLEs (FCP, iMovie, or FCE) after recording. Then here comes the question, is Sony A5100 MTS compatible with Final Cut Pro, iMovie or FCE?

Step 1: Install and launch the AVCHD Converter on Mac (Mavericks included), and then click "Add" button to import your MTS files to the software.

Step 2: Hit the "Format" bar and select the output format you want. If you want to edit Sony MTS file in FCP, suggest you to choose Final Cut Pro > Apple ProRes 422(*mov). And for editing in iMovie/FCE, you can choose iMovie and Final Cut Express > Apple InterMediate Codec(AIC)(*mov)?

Optional: Adjust the video and audio parameters, including the Bitrate of Video&Audio, Video Size, Sample Rate, Frame Rate, Audio Channels, etc., by clicking the Settings button on the main interface for getting the best quality.

Step 3: Click the "Convert" button to start Sony A5100 MTS to FCP, iMovie, FCE conversion.

Once the conversion finished, click "Open" button to locate the encoded videos, and then you can edit AVCHD recordings in FCP, iMovie, FCE without issue.
