"I received a Canon XA20 camcorder recently, it offers 1080p footages in .AVCHD format. I captured many videos. Now, I want to import Canon XA20 AVCHD video to Avid Media Composer 6.5 for native editing, but the videos are rejected by Avid. What’s going on?"

The XA20 is a compact, HD camcorder with an impressive optical performance from a powerful Genuine Canon 20x HD Video Lens with a 8-blade circular aperture, capable of focusing down to just 23.6-inch (60 cm). Other features include a 3.5-inch OLED touch panel display with the equivalent of 1.23 million dots of resolution, tiltable electronic viewfinder, multiple HD/SD recording rates - including 24p for a "cinematic" look - together with a choice of industry-standard MP4 (up to 35 Mbps) and AVCHD (up to 28 Mbps) codecs.

Many high-end camcorder users, such as Sony, Panasonic, Canon have the demand to edit recorded AVCHD files in Avid Media Composer, but they always got the Error message while importing Canon XA20 AVCHD files to Avid Media Composer. The reason for Avid incompatible with Canon XA20 videos is that the AVCHD video codec is not native for Avid Media Composer 6.5, 6 or 5.5 editing.

So, in order to edit Canon XA20 footage in Media Composer without problems, the easy option is to convert Canon XA20 MTS to DNxHD codec, which is the most compatible video format for Avid MC.

Here Brorsoft MTS/M2TS Converter Mac is a superb AVCHD to Avid converter for you, which can transcode Canon XA20 MTS files to Avid professional encoder DNxHD-ensuring maximum editing quality and efficiency when working with Media Composer.
