As we know, P2 media is recorded in MXF format, and it offers a variety of formats to choose from (DV, DVCPRO, DVCPRO 50, DVCPRO HD, and AVC-Intra 50 and AVC-Intra 100), differing in bit depth (8 or 10 bits), scanning mode (Progressive or Interlaced) and also frame rate. No matter which P2 camcorder you are now having like AJ-HPX2100, AJ-HPX2700, AJ-HPX3000, and AJ-HPX3700, etc you probably would like to edit the recorded P2 MXF footage with an editing program, for example Avid Media Composer. While different problems occurred:

Q1: Having Trouble with Avid Media Composer 6, P2 and XDCAM

I had no idea that MC6 currently does NOT support P2 or XDCAM with AMA - Best I can tell Sony or Panasonic has not released updated drivers that support MC6 - My drivers for MC5.5 worked just fine with MC5.5 - but when I visit the update page - no drivers for MC6 are found.

Q2: P2 mxf into MC5- cannot import the file into a bin

I have a problem importing mxf files into my Avid Media Composer 5.0.3. Now with MC 5.0.3 I only have the import option, and any attempt to just import the files end up with an error message saying that I cannot import the file into a bin, and that I should check documentation.

As you see, the Avid Media Composer including the recent version MC6.5 can’t handle the Panasonic P2 MXF videos well. The main reason is that MXF is not a natively supported format for Avid Media Composer. Plus, like the AVC-intra codec, it is a very processor heavy codec, which will bring more difficulty to play and edit these files. So, the best choice is to transcode Panasonic P2 MXF to DNxHD codec, which ensures maximum editing quality and efficiency when working with Avid Media Composer.
