Sony's XDCAM HD format is based on optical media, Sony’s Professional Disc system. Sony XDCAM HD camcorders record high-resolution MPEG-2 Long-GOP files, using the standardized Material Exchange Format container, other wise know as MXF. A low-resolution MPEG-4 video stream for proxy-based video editing is also created simultaneously with the high-resolution content during recoding. In this article, we will share the XDCAM HD workflows in Pinnacle Studio for those who failed to import Sony XDCAM HD footage to Pinnacle Studio for post-production.

During the XDCAM HD importing & editing process with the non-linear editor Pinnacle Studio, many users are fed up with the incompatibility issues:

So my client has a selection of XDCAM HD footage that they want to edit in-house using their PC and Pinnacle Studio. Naturally, they can't use the XDCAM native footage, which they have. I need to figure out a way to either get them to convert the footage to something usable or to get Pinnacle/their PC to read the XDCAM codec.

Since Sony XCAM HD (MXF, MEPG-4) files are not ideal for editing in Pinnacle Studio. You'd consider going to some uncompressed codec that Pinnacle might handle. Here comes Brorsoft Video Converter, which can help you to transfer Sony XDCAM MP4/MXF to Pinnacle Studio favorable AVI video. This program supports professional encoders like DNxHD, MPEG-2 and more- ensuring maximum editing quality and efficiency when working with Avid Media Composer, Sony Vegas Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro, etc respectively.
