The Sony NEX-VG10 is a large-sensor, interchangeable-lens HD camcorder. It can also stand-in for a 14MP DSLR for still shots. The NEX-VG10 shoots 1920-by-1080 AVCHD video at 60 interlaced fields per second (you're fixed at that 60i frame rate), and its maximum bit rate for video capture is 24 mbps.
Most of the Sony NEX-VG10 users are satisfied with the 1080/60i AVCHD recordings, but some users who intend to edit Sony NEX-VG10 AVCHD on FCP 7 on Mac, they get frustrated. They would meet the trouble that the AVCHD flies would not be ingested natively into Final Cut Pro 7 like the quoted words present.
I'm a newbie using FCP 7, a new MAC, and a SONY NEX VG 10 camera that records in AVCHD high profile. FCP 7 cannot support importing AVCHD files. I am looking for the most efficient way to convert my files to a form readable by FCP.
You should be able to use Log and Transfer in FCP if you kept the original folder structure intact. If not, you have to transcode Sony NEX-VG10 AVCHD to FCP 7 most compatible format Apple ProRes. You can get the AVCHD to FCP Converter to make the transcoding task without quality loss, which offers you particular profiles for Final Cut Pro.
(Note: Click here for OS X 10.5)
Step 1: Download and install the best Mac MTS/M2TS Converter for FCP 7 on your computer, and then launch the program to add 1080/60i MTS/M2TS files to it.
Tip: You can select the “Merge into one” box to merge multiple MTS/M2TS video clips for easy editing in FCP 7.
Step 2: Click on the Format icon and here we recommend Final Cut Pro > Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) (.*mov) as the output format for Final Cut Pro 7 with the most compatible video codec.
Step 3: You can click the Settings icon to do some audio/video settings. We recommend 1920*1080 as video size and 30fps as video bitrate to keep the best quality.
NOTE: Before start the conversion, you’d better to deinterlace 1080i AVCHD files for editing in FCP or other non-linear video editing software including iMovie, Final Cut Express, etc.
Step 4: Click Convert button; it will convert Sony NEX-VG10 MTS to Apple ProRes for FCP 7 immediately. Follow the conversion process in the “Conversion” interface.
When the conversion process shows in 100%, you can get the resulted videos from output folder easily. Now, import Sony NEX-VG10 AVCHD to FCP 7 on Mac for editing freely without quality loss.
