Xperia is the family of Sony smartphones. The line has been manufactured since 2008 and currently accounts for more than half of the company's mobile phone sales. Xperia S/SL, Xperia arc & Xperia arc S, Xperia T/TX, Xperia acro S, Xperia sola, Xperia go, Xperia U, Xperia P, Xperia J, Xperia V, etc are all the hot Android camera phones with the best of everything from Sony.

If you’ve having problems connecting Sony Xperia to PC via USB there are a couple of things worth trying.

Situation one: If your phone is not detected at all

First make sure that it's not a problem with the cable. If possible try using another USB cable.
You can also try to connect the cable to another USB port on your computer. Don't use any USB hub's.

If the phone still won't get detected there's one more thing you can try from the hardware side. Connect your phone to another computer to verify if the problem is located on the phone or computer.

Situation two: If your phone gets partly connected

Most Xperia phones have two USB connection modes. MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) and MSC (Mass Storage Device Class). You can switch between these modes here; Settings > Xperia > Connectivity.

    A. MSC mode
In MSC mode ordinary mass storage drivers will be used, so the MSC mode works on most systems. Mac, Linux or PC.

    a. If you experience problems in MSC mode please check that a SD card is inserted in the SD card slot in the phone.

    b. If you still can't access your SD card on your computer you should check your device manager and proper mass storage drivers have been applied. You can access the device manager by right clinking on "My computer" or "Computer" depending on Win OS version.

    B. MTP connection
    a. If you can't get MTP connection you should first make sure that PC Companion and/or Windows Media Player (Latest version, Win XP only) is installed on your PC.

    b. If your Xperia phone is running on Android Gingerbread you can try to clear data for the application called MTPapp. Found here in your phone; Settings > Applications > Manager applications > All > MTPapp > Clear data.

You can also try to enable or disable the USB debug option found under Development settings in the phone.

When you successfully connect Sony Xperia to PC, you can freely transfer videos to Sony Xperia from PC as well as a pile of music and photo files.

If you want to have a smooth playback on your Sony Xperia phones, another thing to consider is the Sony Xperia video format. We found MP4, 3GP files can be played well on Sony Xperia phones, but MKV, AVI, MOV, VOB, MTS, FLV cannot be supported by Sony Xperia Z/S/SL/T/TX/U/V/P/J/Xperia acro S. You can get the best Sony Xperia Video Converter- Brorsoft Video Converter to batch convert a bunch of video files in various formats including but not limit to .mkv, .wmv, .mov, .flv, .mts, .vob, .avi, etc to a compatible .mp4 video for Xperia phones. What’s more, this video app for Sony Xperia allows you to compress movies especially some 4k, full HD 1080p files to a size more suitable for mobile viewing.
