In usual, you can fast import AVCHD video into FCP X using Import from Camera, but when do with the Sony HDR-CX380 1080 60p media with it, we found FCP X will not recognize them. To edit footage shot on the Sony HDR-CX380/B in Final Cut Pro X you must first convert the footage to another format that fully supported by FCP X.
Solution to importing Sony HDR-CX380/B MTS/M2TS to FCP X
As we all know FCP 7 is fully compatible with Apple ProRes .mov format. And it can support 30fps/25fps frame rate well. To bring the nonstandard video to FCP X, the best solution is to convert Sony HDR-CX380 1080 60p AVCHD to 30p ProRes for Final Cut Pro X on Mac and then import to FCP X for smooth editing.
Step 1) Go to download and install the top AVCHD for Mac Converter on your Mac computer. Launch it to load your 1080 60p MTS/M2TS to it for converting.
Tip: Check the “Merge into one” box for joining AVCHD clips together if you need.
Step 2) Click on the pull down menu of “Format” and select Final Cut Pro > Apple ProRes 422 as the output format. Like Apple ProRes 422 HQ, Apple PorRes 422 LT, etc are also the proper choice.
Step 3) Press the “Settings” icon to freely set video resolution, frame rate, bitrate, etc freely. Since you got 1080 60p AVCHD file, you need to change the frame rate to 30fps for easy editing in FCP X.
Step 4) Start converting AVCHD to .mov on Mac OS X via tapping on the Convert button.
When the conversion is completed, you can get the final output files effortlessly. Now, import and edit Sony HDR-CX380/B footage in FCP X without any incompatible issues.
