  • About VOB File Extension

VOB, which stands for Video Object, is one of the older formats and was developed by the DVD forum in around 1995. It's usually used for storing DVD-Video media. A file with the .vob extension generally contains all the video, audio, subtitles, menus, content info, etc. of a DVD movie and is stored within the Video_TS folder of a DVD.

Most DVD VOB files are encrypted with CSS (Content Scramble System) to prevent users from copying and converting VOB files so as to protect the copyright. In most cases, the VOB file format is preferred only if you want to play the videos on VOB-compatible DVD players as this format itself doesn't have any obvious advantages over others.
